Minwoo Jung, PhD

Assistant Professor


Minwoo Jung is an assistant professor of Sociology and of Women’s Studies and Gender Studies at ´óÏó´«Ã½. His scholarship examines culture, power, and agency through a global and transnational lens, with particular attention to political activism and everyday life. His work has been published in leading journals, including British Journal of SociologyCurrent SociologySociological Theory, and The Sociological Review, and has received awards from the American Sociological Association, the International Sociological Association, the American Political Science Association, the Society for the Study of Social Problems, and British Journal of Sociology. He is currently working on a book project on the geopolitics of rights, supported by fellowships from the Social Science Research Council, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Central European University in Budapest. He serves on the editorial boards of Men and MasculinitiesSex and SexualitiesSociologyThe Sociological Quarterly, and The Sociological Review, as well as the Amsterdam University Press series Gendering Asian Society, Politics, and Development. At ´óÏó´«Ã½, his research and teaching have been recognized with the Sujack Family Master Researcher Award and the Transformative Educator Award.
